Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, the retailer pays us a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be otherwise.

Where these links appear

Almost entirely in two sections: sealed products and gear. Those are the pages readers arrive at already intending to buy something, so a link to a retailer is useful rather than intrusive. Guides, glossary entries, and tools generally carry none at all.

Any page containing affiliate links says so in a box above the first one, not buried down here where nobody looks.

Why this does not bend the rankings

This is the part that matters, so here is the concrete commitment. Rankings and recommendations are decided before anyone checks which retailer pays what. We regularly recommend the cheaper option, and we regularly tell readers a product is a bad buy, including products we hold links for.

If a product is worse, we say so. A site that only ever says buy this is not worth reading, and readers work that out fast.

Why advertising rather than subscriptions

Not entirely by choice. The Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy permits fan sites to run advertising and sponsorships, but it prohibits putting fan content behind any paywall, subscription, or email requirement. A paid tier is therefore not an option available to us, and advertising is what keeps the site free.
